How To Reduce Your Car Insurance Excess

By Susan Reynolds

In this economy everyone is wondering how they can save money and lower their bills. The cost of owning a car is comparable to owning a home with the high payments, large fuel costs, and the extremely high insurance premiums that we pay. You can refinance your car loan to obtain a lower interest rate to save on the payments, purchasing a vehicle with better gas mileage will save on fuel costs, and there are several options that will save you money on your insurance premiums.

The best way to start on saving on your vehicle insurance is to shop around with other companies. Brokers are available to offer their services but you may be subject to fees. Calling for quotes can be tiresome but it is worth the hundreds of dollars saved on your policy.

The deductible is the mount you are expected t pay out of pocket in the event that there is a claim on your policy. By having a very low deductible your rate is higher and if you increase your deductible you will see the premiums go down.

The type of car you drive can determine what kind of premium you pay with your insurance. If your vehicle is in a high risk category for theft or for being involved in more accidents it could dramatically increase your rates. The value of your car will impact the rates as well as if it is a sports car or a family sedan.

Your driving record is very important to your premium costs. The insurance company will look at everything from the amount of speeding tickets you have received to the amount of time you have been driving. Any violations major or minor will increase your premium.

Any safety or security features your vehicle may be equipped with will lower your insurance premiums due to the great discounts you will receive from the companies. Features such as ant theft devices, dual airbags, or safety locks can create large discounts on your policy. Speak to your insurance agent to find out what discounts are offered for certain features and then have them installed to receive the discounts.

When it is time to renew your policy do not just send them the money. Look over the policy to make sure no changes are needed and this is a good time to shop around for compared quotes. You may find that after having a policy in place for a year or so you will be offered lower rates from other companies to switch.

Combining multiple policies with one company can usually save you money, at times this savings could be hundreds of dollars. If you have mortgage insurance or boat insurance you can use the same company to insure all of your needs and receive hefty discounts.

Lowering your insurance premium is possible and with the many ways to productively save money you can find a way that will affect your current policy and possibly create even lower premiums for future policies. Do not be afraid to shop around and always ask about the details of the policy to determine if you need the coverage they offer.

Basic Limits of Liability Insurance

By Graham McKenzie

The most basic type of insurance that a person can get is liability insurance. In most states you are required to have insurance to be able to drive legally on the road. Liability insurance is the most inexpensive type of insurance that will allow you to drive legally. Liability insurance only covers other vehicles and persons in those vehicles if you are in a car accident.

The minimal amount of coverage that is offered through liability insurance is known as the basic limits of liability. While some companies have different minimums the lowest coverage that you can receive is $25,000 worth of property damage and $50,000 worth of bodily injury.

There?s another type of insurance that will allow you to cover your vehicle in the event of an accident called full coverage. If you have a car that you are paying off then you will be required to have full coverage on it until it?s paid off. Full coverage is also handy if you can?t afford to repair your car or buy a new one in the event of an accident. Both full coverage and liability insurance have coverage that range from as little to $25,000 up into millions of dollars in coverage.

By having full coverage and higher coverage limits, you will have less to worry about in the event of a serious accident. In most small accidents basic liability will cover the property damage. However if you get into a serious accident with only the basic limits of liability then you will be liable to pay the difference. Thus it pays to have higher insurance coverage so that you don?t end up owing tens of thousands of dollars in damage and hospital bills.

Your insurance bill will be higher if you increase your coverage. Other big factors on your premium include your age, driving record, and car type. You will usually be able to choose how much coverage you have unless you?re buying a new car. In this case there are certain laws governing the type of coverage and the minimum that you need. The second number in the coverage limits is the bodily injury coverage. This number is usually double what the property damage limit is due to the fact that medical care is much more expensive.

Driving without insurance is risky and illegal in some states. It?s best to have even the basic limits of liability to protect yourself. If you have a newer car then you will want to have better coverage. In most cases you will want to have collision and comprehensive insurance to protect your car in the event of an accident, theft, or bad weather.

Acquiring the right type of insurance for you and your vehicle is important. If you can afford more than basic liability insurance you should take the higher coverage. If you?re unsure about policies and finding the best rates you should check with various insurance agents to help you get the coverage you need.

What You Need To Know About Auto Insurance Laws

By Mark Alison

Do you know the proper auto insurance laws of your state? Do you know how much coverage you need? Or, what is the minimum coverage required? Do you have liability insurance? What will happen if you drive to another state and get pulled over?

To answer these questions, call your insurance agent. They will have all the best information about state and regional laws that involve you and your vehicle. It's their job to know all this and help you with it. Before you call, make sure you have all your questions ready so you don't forget.

In each state, there is a minimum requirement of coverage that must be accounted for. Some states require one or two, but all three types of coverage are "injury to another", "injury to all people", "damage to property". Some state require liability only, other require all three.

The general rule is that you need proper coverage for the states you drive through as well. If the state you're traveling through needs more coverage than you have, it's your responsibility to extend the coverage for the states you travel through.

Some states have laws covering vehicles that you don't need insurance for. In Washington and Oregon, motorcycles, scooters, and mopeds do not need insurance to drive them.

All states require you to carry auto insurance proof on you at all times. When pulled over if you don't provide proof, you will get a ticket and have to contest it in court. Simply bring the proof to the judge and you should get acquitted. If not, it's a hefty fine.

You are the one responsible for staying within the driving laws of your state. In all states, it is considered a privilege, not a right, to drive and have a drivers license.

National Automobile Insurance - Which One To Choose...

By John Paulsonmen

Anytime you're looking for national auto insurance companies, you have to make sure that the coverage you're getting is worth the price you're paying. This can be difficult at times, but there are plenty of companies available that offer a good service. However, you're going to have to review four different questions that will basically determine what kind of insurance you end up with in the end.

Depending on your age, there are many ways to get discounts in this area. Most national auto insurance companies offer a discount once the person reaches the age of 25. If you're under that age right now, you will notice a nice decrease in pay when you hit this ultimate number. Then you have to worry about whether you're going to get comprehensive coverage, or just liability.

You should be able to get a few breaks along the way in this arena as well. The only problem is if you don't go with comprehensive, then you'll have out of pocket costs if your coverage doesn't take care of everything. Other discounts to look forward to is getting married, purchasing an additional car, and even moving out of state. You should look into each one of these avenues and figure out what types of discounts you can accumulate.

Most importantly you're going to come across several companies that compete for you business. You should always take advantage of this and let them know you're getting a better deal from someone else. Just head to their website and compare the two, then come back with the results. The customer service rep may get their supervisor in order to close the deal. When this happens it just means you're going to save more money.

The larger national companies provide different discounts depending on your individual situation and insurance needs. Your vehicle may qualify for a discount if it has certain safety devices installed. The combined insurance for vehicles might be a discount for reputed automobile companies.

You should not forget that the insurance company you eventually choose at the end should stand out and has excellent reputation. You can do the same thing as they will be doing which is checking your credit and adding up how many car accidents you've had. Try to choose a company that has a good reputation and is trustworthy. Better Business Bureau keeps record of complaints against insurance companies as well as the resolution.

Then again, many families will need to stay within a strict budget. When this happens we tend to jump on the bandwagon of the cheap company. While this is more affordable, and we understand why you're going with them, check to see what else is out there. You may find that for a few bucks more you can get all kinds of extra coverage they weren't going to offer you. See, national insurance companies have to abide by the state laws, so make sure they do so for you.

Most national auto insurance companies offer different payment schedules so that you can choose the one that fits with your unique financial situation. You have the option of monthly, every four months, or yearly. It's good to have the security of insurance, even though you hope to never use it.

Auto Insurance Laws - What You Should Know

By Mark Alison

Laws can be confusing sometimes. How much coverage is you required to have? What is the minimum amount? Do you have to have liability? What if you drive to other states? The questions are endless and it can be confusing at times.

Your agent is the best source of information. They have access to all the state laws for insurance and will be able to lead you in the right way. It's their job to know these things and they get paid for your safety. Before you call them be sure to write down your inquiries so they can answer them promptly and you don't have to call them back.

Basic rule is that each state has a minimum requirement for the auto insurance coverage you need to have for certain situations. The three types of coverage is injury to another, injury to all people, and damage to property.

If you are going to travel out of state, check out what auto insurance coverage you will need. Call the rep of your insurance company and verify the coverage you need. Be sure if you are traveling through multiple states, find the strictest one and change your coverage to that one for the time being.

States have different liability laws involving motor cycles and scooters. If you're strapped for cash and you can't afford insurance, simply check out the state's laws about these vehicles. In Washington, you don't need insurance to drive a motorcycle.

All states require you to carry auto insurance proof on you at all times. When pulled over if you don't provide proof, you will get a ticket and have to contest it in court. Simply bring the proof to the judge and you should get acquitted. If not, it's a hefty fine.

It is your responsibility to be familiar with and in abidance of the laws of your state. Driving, along with having a drivers license, is considered a privilege, not a right.

Finding the Most Inexpensive Car Insurance Quote

By Amy Nutt

Are you thinking of getting car insurance? Are you looking for cheaper ones with the same terms as other more expensive ones? Do you know that it is possible to find cheap car insurance quotes? Have you ever thought of the fact that it is possible your neighbour is getting more 'bang for his insurance buck' than you are for a far lesser rate than you are currently paying? If you answered in the affirmative to one of the questions asked above, then you need to read the following tips as they will put you on the path to getting cheaper or inexpensive auto insurance quote.

1. Look Around Before making your Choice Rushing to get a car insurance is not the best idea particularly when you have not done your homework. To get the best bargain, take a look around. Call up as many car insurance companies as possible. The norm is to call three. But in your best interest, call at least 5. This will give you a wide array of choices to pick from. To do this effectively, you can check the business directory or visit the state's insurance department. All insurance companies often have to register with them before they can become operational. The department can provide you with a list of the many companies. If you live in states like California or New Jersey, car insurance is often more expensive. When investigating the company, look for details such as popularity and capital base. This will give you an idea of their financial health.

2. Make a comparison on different quotes before buying a vehicle The kinds of cars you drive can often be responsible for higher insurance quotes. For example, new car editions, sports cars, and model cars are often easily stolen and therefore often attract higher insurance quotes. So, visit any insurance company and get their different quotes on different cars and then go buy your car. This will at least help you know what you will get when you eventually go looking for the quotes later on.

3. Accessories and Anti-theft devices If your car has more accessories that make it safer such as air bags, anti-theft devices and car alarms, gprs tracking system and other accessories, this can positively affect the insurance quotes as insurance companies are ;likely to look more favourable on any of these.

4. The Age of the car It is more expensive insuring newer cars than the older ones. If you do not really need a new car, why bother buying one. Just a thought anyways. But if you insist on buying one, know that new cars will cost you more. You could easily look up the highest value your car will attract if it is wrecked in the Kelley's Blue Book. This will ensure you know how much your car's worth by the insurer's valuation.

5. Be sure to consider discounts Most insurance companies often offer discounts. Ask for it from them. Some companies offer discounts for good driving records, low mileage etc.
